Dress Down Sunday

Dress: TBM Flea, Cardigan: Space Invasion Mega Sale 2,
Necklace: Sawxy Accessories

Quick post...dressed down my somewhat "regal" combi with a knitted poncho-like oatmeal-coloured cardigan. These are the days where I get reminded that I'm dressing for myself and not anyone else HAHA.

Leather x Tropical Vibes

Dress: CCRG Label, Jacket: Ellysage, Belt: Malaysia, Shoes: H&M

This picture was actually taken for the sole purpose of updating my insta but since I haven't posted here for a while, I figured..why not?

This dress is one of the hardest pieces to style EVER. I did quite a number of trial-and-error with the necklaces and outerwear before finally settling for no necklace and this faux leather jacket to tone down the vibrancy of my dress.

Dress Down

Eternally grateful for this trusty light-wash denim vest from Cotton On - even though it's two sizes too big for me it doesn't bother me that much considering I got it for a steal at RM30 thereabouts!

Dress: The Nine Dame, Shoes & Bag: Rubi,
Denim Vest: Cotton On, Necklace: Elitrend

As usual, this trusty vest did a good job in toning down an otherwise overly "glam" (and somewhat "obnoxious" outfit) - that means I get to wear what I want without people saying "why you wear until so nice??", which is from all perspectives a win-win situation for myself.

White-out

Crochet shirt: New Look, White Jeans: Malaysia,
Necklace: WYBB, Hairtie: Elitrend

Today I finally realised that applying make up to my face makes a world of difference when taking photos..at least I don't look like a zombie LOL.

Wore almost the exact same thing I wore for the Halloween party at church, minus the white Keds and cat-ears headband. A friend of mine commented that I looked like a nurse and was in shock when I told him that this was my "Halloween costume". I think it's good that I don't take as much offense in such statements as I would maybe 4 years ago.

Oh, not to forget that I finally got a chance to wear out my galaxy heart choker! Such a lovely design, isn't it?

Cheers & have a great weekend xoxo

Sunflower

Romper: Factorie, Cardigan: The Stage Walk, Belt: Xiamen, Flats: H&M

I apologise for the lack of creativity in my titles..kind of reflects the effort I put in into cataloging the outfits I actually took time to think over...

In any case, today was the second week of school and the first tutorial class of the semester...yay? Feeling a little troubled over some guy problems as well as who to group with :/ Guess I just have to trust that God knows best yea?

Threw on a shredded cardi for "conservatism's" sake and a weaved belt to pull the entire look together. Footwear features my trusty H&M flats, no less.

Knitted

Muscle Tee, Circle Skirt & Cardigan: Cotton On,
Beanie & Necklace: H&M

These past few days I seem to rarely wear what I planned to the night before - spontaneity often gets its way. After years, I think I finally nailed the white top + skater skirt look? (Please say yes ahaha)

Spontaneous item of the day: The powder blue beanie from H&M, which I centered my outfit around - I think the best outfit combinations arise when your mission is choosing pieces that complement your central piece!

Oh, and at $2.90, this beanie is SUPER affordable..so do grab it before it's all sold out :)

A Quilted Dream

Sweater: Cotton On Body, Shoes: H&M,
Jeans & Necklace: Forever 21

Quilted fabric was something that came out in SS14 and was perhaps somewhat associated with the luxe sport trend - but it's only until now that I actually own a quilted piece - this oversized black sweater from Cotton On Body.

It scores high points for comfort (feels just like pajamas) but I won't be the last to admit it looks a bit shabby - hence the decision against my initial inclination to wear it with my jersey pajama pants from H&M.

School starts tomorrow. All the best for the coming week xoxo

Mockingjay

Got this beautiful Mockingjay necklace today from a Carousell seller - the temptation to wear it every day is strong but then again so are fears that it will oxidise...

Muscle Tee & Denim Vest: Cotton On,
Shorts: Bossini, Mockingjay necklace: Carousell, Bracelet: Forever 21

It was the perfect accessory for a simple yet put-together outfit - a light-washed denim vest thrown over a simple muscle tee and shorts combi. Starting to fall more and more in love with this $12 equivalent Cotton On vest - definitely worth the 2 years wait!

Leather Jacket

Leather Jacket: Ellysage, Graphic Tee: Cotton On,
Jeans: Forever21, Choker: Shoptheluckiestcloud, Shoes: MIYOC

My first faux/PU leather jacket - I've always wanted one, but my mum decided to get one made of real leather instead - too inappropriate to wear in this humid weather unfortunately. And a size too small as well - I made full sure to size up when placing an order for this lovely biker jacket - getting a size M with a bigger ptp (17") then what I'm used to (15.5"-16.5").

Paired this lovely jacket with a graphic tee dug out from my sister's wardrobe and my trusty mid-wash jeans from Forever 21. Classic rocker take this time - eager to experiment with more feminine styles in the future, no shortage of inspiration owing to the fact that almost every Instagrammer owns a similar piece (cue: cheers for finally buying something mainstream without first loathing it? Well, baby steps are essential).

Cheers & have a great day xoxo

OH BOY

BOY London Muscle Tee: Montifs, Flannel: Three Blind Mice Flea,
Shorts: Bangkok, Bag & Shoes: Xiamen

Finally brought my BOY London-inspired muscle tee out of my closet. Decided to wear it in the typical Brandy way - flannel around the waist, high-waist denim shorts, white sneakers. Says a lot about me doesn't it?

Back to December

I find it funny, I find it kind of sad. All the things that haunt me are the best I ever had...

December's only about two months and a week away. Today I decided to allow myself a short trip down memory lane. It was frightening, but I truly believed that God was there holding my hand.. And I survived. But wow, so much has changed from 5 years back. We don't really see how much we've actually changed year on year, but when we look back a few years, it's easy to realise what a different person we've become

I got a crush on (Blue)

Current new favourite colour i.e. the colour I'm totally crushing over - powder blue. It first caught my eye during the Space Invasion Mega Sale 2 @ The Cathay. I saw an Ellysage top in the most adorable baby blue colour but alas, I decided not to purchase it in the end...

Then there was this baby blue clutch from Charles and Keith with a chic-looking bow adorning the top of the bag. Minimalistic madness - tres chic!

And yesterday, when I saw someone wearing a powder blue dress - I was sold. My new favourite colour, at long last!!

Is it strange that my favourite colour changes depending on the supposedly in colour during the season? I remember when I was totally loving all things mustard, maroon and mint green when they were the in colour that season. Does this mean that I have no opinion of my own and that I'm merely following the flow of the crowd? Maybe so...

But I like to think that fashion should be something that influences us, not defines us. I feel that we should incorporate the latest trends into a piece/style that we have created for ourselves. In the same way, I feel that colour preferences are also a way we can incorporate the latest trends into our own unique style.

Signing off, Jocelyn :)

Fashion Files: September 2014

Hola! It's been a long time since my last post and today I wish to share 3 trends I think just might be the next big thing this season! (Of course, there's always uncertainty with regards to trends - designers and influencers might be passionate about certain styles but this may not resound with the general public). This Fall, three trends look set to dominate the local fashion scene. They are: Marble Prints, Gladiator Boots and Vests.

1) Marble Prints

I think that marble is a really lovely print - it's really classy and sleek. This print first entered into the fashion scene in mid June but only in the past 2 months or so has it really taken off in terms of public affection. Marble first started appearing on spag tops and skorts, but is now slowly making its way into all types of apparel - pajama pants, tee-shirts, rompers and the like - and I must say, I'm really excited with regards to where the local fashion scene will take this print - a marble maxi next perhaps? The possibilities are endless!

Here's a look at some of my favourite pieces from local blogshops!

Marble Shorts from ShopOhSoFickle

Marble Tiered Sleeveless Top from  ShopOhSoFickle

Marble Print Romper from ShopSassyDream

Marni Marble Skorts from The Tinsel Rack

2) Gladiator Boots

Remember when gladiator sandals/wedges were the rage back in 2012?? Well they're back again - with a twist! Cyclical product life cycles, which are common for most fashion trends! I love how fierce yet classic this footwear is - it's a statement piece but not in an over the top way like killer Jeffrey Campbells or Adidas collaboration sneakers. Here are two intepretations of the trend I've seen so far - one on Shi Jia and the other on Eunice Annabel!

Shi Jia's boots are from ShopOhsofickle

Eunice Annabel's boots are from a Malaysian online Store called Fashion Blogger

 3) Vests

This trend...2 words: MAJOR LOVE. There are some trends I don't really like at first...like Varsity Jackets back in 2012. But they're some trends you look at and you just fall in love with instantaneously, and that pretty much describes how I feel about vests. Aesthetic-wise, they're pretty much perfect in every way possible... I do have 1 hesitation though: I get cold easily... Which explains my 30-strong collection of ling-sleeved outwear. Nevertheless, I still think I'm going to get a vest (provided I can lay my hands on one before they're all sold out!

Here's some of the blogshops that have stocked up the latest "in" piece!

Cobalt Blue Carlynn Vest from Flymetoparis

White Vedetta Vest from Love, Bonito

Olive Vest from YoungHungryFree

There are a couple few more trends I'd like to share and maybe I will over the next few days... until then, adios amigos!

My Response to Dark Horse by Katy Perry

(Screenshot from the video itself - copyright belongs to VEVO & Capitol Records)

The first time I heard the song, I didn't fall in love. I'm a ballads/catchy club songs kinda girl (quite contrasting genres I'm well aware). In any case, as it didn't cater to my usual taste in music, I gave it a pass. I gave it another go after one of my favourite YouTubers - Missglamorazi raved about it in a video. But I still didn't feel any connection with the song. Now that the music video has come out however, it's a different story - I'm totally in love with the video, I love the Egyptian theme so much. As someone who used to be interested in the Ancient Egypt Civillisation (see the Slideshow I did here), it kind of brought back fond memories of the days I had less superficial interests. Lol.

Anyway, back to the video... I watched it twice because I thought it was Amazing. You can really tell that the team at Capitol Records put a lot of hard work into the making of this... The cost of production was probably quite high too though o.o

I was kind of shocked when I read the comments section... I wasn't at all expecting what I read... A religious debate was pretty much what summed it up. Many Muslims commented about how there was the use of the Arabic words that translate to "Allah" on the necklace of a suitor she...extinguished, calling it offensive and the sort. There was lackback from many "anti-Muslims", seemingly Americans that seem to still harbour hatred for the devastating 9/11 incident.

Overall, after reading through about 200 out of 180,000 comments... I simply felt that be people were simply just too oversensitive. I mean... This is pop culture after all. The flamboyance, using what exists as inspiration and 'modernising' it...  Well, maybe that's just my personal opinion.

Another thing I found interesting was how both the songs "Roar" as well as "Dark Horse" created controversy. The former was due to the alleged animal cruelty in the production of the video. The question is.. Is Capitol Records creating such controversy intentionally? Because one thing is for sure.. Controversy creates Publicity.
