My Response to Dark Horse by Katy Perry

(Screenshot from the video itself - copyright belongs to VEVO & Capitol Records)

The first time I heard the song, I didn't fall in love. I'm a ballads/catchy club songs kinda girl (quite contrasting genres I'm well aware). In any case, as it didn't cater to my usual taste in music, I gave it a pass. I gave it another go after one of my favourite YouTubers - Missglamorazi raved about it in a video. But I still didn't feel any connection with the song. Now that the music video has come out however, it's a different story - I'm totally in love with the video, I love the Egyptian theme so much. As someone who used to be interested in the Ancient Egypt Civillisation (see the Slideshow I did here), it kind of brought back fond memories of the days I had less superficial interests. Lol.

Anyway, back to the video... I watched it twice because I thought it was Amazing. You can really tell that the team at Capitol Records put a lot of hard work into the making of this... The cost of production was probably quite high too though o.o

I was kind of shocked when I read the comments section... I wasn't at all expecting what I read... A religious debate was pretty much what summed it up. Many Muslims commented about how there was the use of the Arabic words that translate to "Allah" on the necklace of a suitor she...extinguished, calling it offensive and the sort. There was lackback from many "anti-Muslims", seemingly Americans that seem to still harbour hatred for the devastating 9/11 incident.

Overall, after reading through about 200 out of 180,000 comments... I simply felt that be people were simply just too oversensitive. I mean... This is pop culture after all. The flamboyance, using what exists as inspiration and 'modernising' it...  Well, maybe that's just my personal opinion.

Another thing I found interesting was how both the songs "Roar" as well as "Dark Horse" created controversy. The former was due to the alleged animal cruelty in the production of the video. The question is.. Is Capitol Records creating such controversy intentionally? Because one thing is for sure.. Controversy creates Publicity.
